Google One VPN Revolutionizes Location Accuracy with Local IP Addresses

Google One VPN is now Available

Enhancing Online Privacy and Personalization: Google One VPN Empowers Users with Local IP Address Region Switching.

Google One is enhancing its VPN service by transitioning from using broad IP addresses to more localized ones. This update aims to optimize location-based experiences for users.

By the end of July, VPN by Google One will automatically assign your IP location to a local region as the default setting. This change is intended to enhance the accuracy of location-based features on the apps and websites you visit.

Some users have reported issues with location-based apps, such as weather experiences when using the Google One VPN (including Fi). Occasionally, their location is inaccurately identified as a completely different state, even when they are only a few cities away. Google has likely received similar feedback, prompting this update.

Despite the change, Google ensures that your network provider and the websites you visit will still be unable to determine your actual IP address or precise location. This commitment to privacy remains unchanged.

However, if you prefer the previous default setting, you can opt to “Use a broader IP address region.” This option will be available in the Google One app on Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows. Although it is not yet available, once implemented, switching to the broader region setting will briefly disconnect your VPN. Google recommends this option for those seeking even greater privacy.

The rollout of the Google One VPN IP address update will commence on July 29, 2023. Users are being notified about this update via email today.
