In Nigeria, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is the governmental body responsible for registering business names, companies, and Incorporated Trustees.
A public search form has been integrated into the CAC Nigeria online portal, to enable anyone to search CAC records for registered incorporated trustees, company or business names, and those undergoing business registrations.
As we know, to authorize a company to fully function in Nigeria, it must have undergone the registration process with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Therefore, before you carry out business with any company in Nigeria, it is important to verify a business name if it’s registered or not.
It is important to note that registering a company is not as difficult as many will believe if you understand the procedure and it’s not expensive except if you don’t know your way.
If you want to register your company or business name with CAC Nigeria, you can also use the CAC public name search portal to check if your proposed business name has been registered by someone else or not.
For job seekers who wish to verify the authenticity of a company, this will be helpful. Though some genuine companies sometimes could project a brand name different from the registered business name. However, this tool will go a long way in guiding you.

How to Use CAC Public Name Search Form to Verify a Business Name if it’s Registered or Not
- Log on to https://search.cac.gov.ng
- Enter the company name you want to search in the search field without “LTD or Limited” e.g Shelaf World of Technology
- Tick the “I’m not a robot” and solve the captcha if prompted
- Click “Search” and the search result will display the company registration number, the company name, company address, and date of incorporation (registration) if the company is registered.
If no registered business name in the CAC database contains your search term, the form will return a blank result. It means the “company” is not licensed to operate.

Not working. No feedback after clicking search. Even searched for well known companies

That's very correct. It's the best and simple way to very the availability of a proposed company or business name. And registering a company limited by shares in Nigeria costs just about N20k and the process is now online and seamless.
As I read the blog I felt a tug on the heartstrings.
