How to Verify a Business Name or Company in Nigeria if it is Legally Registered or Not

In Nigeria, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is the governmental body responsible for registering business names, companies, and Incorporated Trustees.

A public search form has been integrated into the CAC Nigeria online portal, to enable anyone to search CAC records for registered incorporated trustees, company or business names, and those undergoing business registrations.

As we know, to authorize a company to fully function in Nigeria, it must have undergone the registration process with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Therefore, before you carry out business with any company in Nigeria, it is important to verify a business name if it’s registered or not.

It is important to note that registering a company is not as difficult as many will believe if you understand the procedure and it’s not expensive except if you don’t know your way.

If you want to register your company or business name with CAC Nigeria, you can also use the CAC public name search portal to check if your proposed business name has been registered by someone else or not.

For job seekers who wish to verify the authenticity of a company, this will be helpful. Though some genuine companies sometimes could project a brand name different from the registered business name. However, this tool will go a long way in guiding you.
