Nothing Phone (2) Rumored to Shock Fans with High Price Tag as Founder Carl Pei Responds on Twitter

Nothing Phone (2)

The highly anticipated release of the Nothing Phone (2) is just around the corner, but recent rumors suggest that its price may be much higher than anticipated.

A French tech site called Dealabs has posted information indicating that the standard 256GB storage model of the Phone (2) will be priced at €729 in France, with a higher storage variant, likely to be 512GB, costing €849. Surprisingly, Carl Pei, the Managing Director and founder of Nothing, responded to this leak on Twitter, possibly endorsing it or simply making a lighthearted remark. It remains unclear whether Pei’s comment was meant to mislead followers or if he intends to reveal the official pricing details at the upcoming launch event.

These rumored prices are quite staggering, even without Pei’s involvement. The original Phone (1) was sold at a range of €469 to €549 (approximately $500–$600), which is nearly half the alleged price of the Phone (2).

While the rumored Phone (2) prices do include double the storage capacity, it appears that it will no longer be positioned as an affordable flagship-killer like its predecessor. Instead, it will directly compete with other premium smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the Google Pixel 7.

Fortunately, the Nothing Phone (2) is expected to bring more than just increased storage capacity. Official teasers from Nothing, as reported by Forbes, have revealed that the Phone (2) will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8-series chipset, specifically the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 from last year, which offers superior performance compared to the lower-powered Snapdragon 778G found in the Phone (1).

Additionally, the Phone (2) is expected to feature a slightly larger 4,700 mAh battery, surpassing the 4,500 mAh cell of its predecessor.

One of the most significant pieces of information is that the Nothing Phone (2) will be available for purchase in the United States. The Phone (1) did not make it to the U.S. market due to Nothing’s launch priorities, making it a positive development for the company’s second attempt at entering the smartphone market.

The official launch of the Nothing Phone (2) is scheduled for July 11, which means that we won’t have to wait long to determine the veracity of these pricing rumors or assess how its upgraded features stack up against other flagship smartphones.
