• Then, tap the “Create your KDP account” button to continue.
• Amazon will send One Time Password (OTP) to the email address you used to create your account. Use the OTP to verify your new account.
• Read and agree to the terms and conditions of Amazon KDP.
• Click on the “Create Your Amazon KDP Account” button and you’re done!

Your account has now been created, but it has not been verified yet. You can see at the top of the page, it says “Your account information is incomplete.”

To verify your account, you will need to provide additional information, such as your tax information and US bank details.

Verifying your Amazon KDP account is the most important part of the process. The verification process is what determines if you will be able to receive payments from Amazon or not. Here are the steps to follow to verify your Amazon KDP account:

• Go to the top where you have “My Account,” or “Update Now,” and tap on it the link.
• Two-step Verification will pop up, change it to your country code (e.g. +234), and enter the phone number where you would like to receive the One Time Password. An OTP will be sent to you, input it and then click “Continue.”
• Complete your profile information: You need to fill in your full name, contact address, City, State, Postal code, and your real country or region, e.g. Nigeria. This information will be used to identify you and to process payments.
• Add payment information: Scroll down, and you will see where it says “Getting Paid”. To receive payments from Amazon, you need to add a payment method. It is not your Nigerian bank account, you can add a Payoneer, Geegpay, or Grey USD, GBP, and Euro accounts. How did you obtain this? Refer to the link I provided in the “Preparation Before Opening the Amazon Publishing Account” section of this content.

• Tax information: The next is to fill in the tax information. If you are not in Europe or US, any money you make on Amazon, you’re going to be taxed at a whopping 30% based on all that income. What this means is if your revenue is $100, Amazon is going to take a tax of $30 from your $100. If you make $1,000, they will remove $300. That’s what it means, and if you don’t fill it out, you cannot get paid, so it’s important to do so. How do you do this?

When you click “start,” it will ask what is your tax classification. Select “Individual”. Are you a U.S. citizen? Select “No”. Are you acting as an intermediary agent? Select “No”, and then that should auto-fill your address because you have filled that in already. You must enter your country of citizenship.

Then, you will need to fill in your non-US TIN value, but if you are in Africa or Nigeria, you may not have it, so what do you do?

Simply write ten random digit numbers or ten zeros; that’s all there is to it.

• After that, you click on “Continue” and then scroll down, and you will see Tax Treaty Benefits, the truth is that some countries are tax treaties and they can waive this for them, and for people like the UK, they are treaties, and it can be waived. For you in Africa, it is not waived, you have to pay that money if you don’t know your way.
• On the “Signature” box, tick the option “I certify that I have the capacity to sign for the person identified on line 1 of this form,” then, sign by writing your full name and then, click “Save and Continue”.
• The “Tax Information Interview” summary will pop up, then click “Submit Form” to finish.

Wait for Amazon to verify your information: Amazon will take a few days to verify your information. They will let you know if there are any issues with your account. If there are no issues, your account will be verified and you will be able to receive payments from Amazon.
