Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro Price Leak: What’s in Store?

In recent times, speculations have run rampant about the pricing of Google’s upcoming Pixel 8 series. Initial reports hinted at a price hike compared to the current lineup. However, a leaked Google document provides a different perspective, revealing a mix of good and not-so-bad news for potential buyers.

Contrary to earlier suggestions, insider information from a trusted retail source contradicts the notion of a $100 price increase for the new phones compared to their predecessors. Thanks to X user @Za_Raczke, renowned for Pixel-related leaks, we have access to a Google promotional document that discloses pricing details. If this article is accurate, the Pixel 8 will go on sale for $699, which is a little more than the $599 pricing of the Pixel 7.

The report also indicates that the Pixel 8 Pro‘s starting price of $899 would remain the same as it was for the Pixel 7 Pro.

The Pixel 7a from this year came with a moderate price bump over its predecessor, the Pixel 6a. This increase was accompanied by notable improvements, including upgraded camera sensors, a higher refresh rate screen, and wireless charging support. Rising component costs may have influenced Google’s decision to adjust prices accordingly.

The rationale behind raising the price of only the Pixel 8 while keeping the Pixel 8 Pro steady is not immediately apparent. Both models will feature the new Tensor G3 chip, expected to sport newer cores and an enhanced GPU. They are also expected to have bigger batteries, quicker charging, and perhaps bigger main cameras. Additionally, longer-term assistance is in the works.

It’s important to keep in mind that some noteworthy upgrades might only be accessible on the Pixel 8 Pro. Rumors suggest that this model may have a new time-of-flight module, a 48MP ultrawide camera with high quality, and possibly a temperature sensor.

From a logical standpoint, one might expect the Pixel 8 Pro to see a price hike due to these exclusive upgrades. Yet, since the base model has traditionally been more affordable than its competitors, Google may have made a strategic decision to adjust its pricing strategy. The question remains whether this approach will hinder the Pixel 8’s prospects of becoming one of the best phones of 2023, as one of the standout features of Pixel handsets has been their reasonable pricing.

Finally, Google has officially confirmed that the new Pixel phones will be unveiled on October 4, with a reported release date of October 12, as reported by 9to5Google. These dates mark the much-anticipated arrival of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, leaving fans and tech enthusiasts eager to see what Google has in store for its flagship devices in 2023.
