Google Storage New Rules – Some Users Gmail, Photos, and Drive may be Deleted

Tech giant — Google is switching things around from June 1 and it could have a significant effect on certain users of its well-known Gmail, Photos, and Drive services.

The new terms will essentially permit the US innovation firm to delete individual records stored on Google storage without requiring any permission to do as such.

This emotional update was first reported back in December 2020 with Google emailing users to clarify what the changes will mean for them.

google email notification for removing files

“We are writing to let you know that we recently announced new storage policies for Google Accounts using Gmail, Google Drive (including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard files) and/or Google Photos that bring us in line with industry practices,” Google explained in the email seen by some users.

Presently, for any individual who has endless private emails or family photographs stored with Google, this sounds pretty alarming, but hopefully, the impact should be minimal.

Google has gotten these changes to empower it to do some genuine spring cleaning when users stop utilizing these services and don’t bother to inform the tech giant.

Prevention for Content Removing Issue from Google Storage

To combat this data issue, Google is presently allowing users two years to sign into their accounts. Any individual who stays away for more than 24 months could then see things vanishing with Google having the option to begin removing content.

“If you’re inactive for 2 years (24 months) in Gmail, Drive, or Photos, we may delete the content in the product(s) in which you’re inactive. If you exceed your storage limit for 2 years, we may delete your content across Gmail, Drive and Photos,” the firm said.

Users will get a lot of notice before their family snapshots, Drive documents, and important emails are shipped off to the cycle bin with anybody affected receiving an email to advise them that their content could be taken out so they ought to have a lot of time to get things all together.

Every Google account will still come with 15GB of free storage that is used for Gmail, Photos, and Drive but this is a shared storage space used between all of them. Note that it is not 15GB for each service. So, it is necessary to keep an eye on how much space your photos and files are taking up if you want to continue receiving emails.

Note: the adjustments come into impact from June 1, no content material will be eliminated till at the very least June 1, 2023.
