Apple now allows you to share your feelings on built-in apps via App Store reviews

For years, Apple allows users to redownload numerous built-in applications that you may have removed, but the store listings for those apps were unique from others in one aspect: there was no ability to give a rating or review. However, this appears to have changed recently, since you can now review Apple’s apps in the store.

A casual, unscientific review of some of Apple’s apps reveals that many of them do not have tremendously good ratings. Files, Apple Maps, and Home all received three to three and a half stars. Apple News presently has a rating of 2.3 stars. Podcasts has a dismal two-star rating, according to 9to5Mac.

There are not many Ratings Yet

However, most of Apple’s applications simply don’t have many ratings – many don’t even reach the triple digits — implying that the current evaluations reflect an infinitesimally small sample of the massive number of iOS users out there. (To give you an idea of how big the iOS ecosystem is, Apple announced in January that there were more than a billion iPhones in use.) This also implies that Apple’s applications have much fewer ratings than popular apps such as Gmail (347K), Facebook (1.1 million), and TikTok (10 million).

Even if there are only a few ratings right now, I think the move is positive, and I’m eager to watch how ratings for Apple’s applications evolve over time.
