MTN 5G Network is now available in 81 Lagos communities – Check out the full list

MTN 5G Network

Following MTN Nigeria’s commercial launch and flag-off of the fifth Generation, 5G network evolution over the weekend, Vanguard can authoritatively confirm that about 81 Lagos neighborhoods now have convenient access to 5G services in their area.

The localities included Abijoh Village, Abule Oja, Aguda, Ajao Estate, Badore, Chevron Estate, Dolphin Estate Idi-Oro, Ilupeju, Langbasa, Magboro, Mushin, Sabo Yaba, and Victoria Garden City, among others, according to a trusted MTN source.

These communities can now carry out remote medical procedures, drive smart vehicles, conduct smooth virtual meetings, and generally carry out smart city projects if they implement additional services that can make use of 5G’s immersive capabilities.

The majority of the communities are spread over the Mainland, Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, and Ajah, among others. MTN claims that with ultra-reliable, accessible, low-latency connectivity, they can now connect to new services that will alter sectors, such as remote control of vital infrastructure, automobiles, and medical operations.

MTN says, “These communities are lucky to be the first to move up the ladder. 5G has an increased capacity of up to 100 times faster than 4G, meaning faster connectivity. It has low latency and greater bandwidth.

“Therefore, real-time high-quality communications and experiences can be achieved, making downloading movies possible in seconds, for instance.

“This real-time capacity is why it can be deployed for e-health, connected vehicles and traffic systems, smart home appliances, advanced mobile cloud gaming, workplace safety among others.”

Look at the list closely, though, and you’ll see that places like Festac, Satellite Town, and the surrounding areas down the Badagry axis are not included. Apapa, Ajegunle, Ikorodu, Epe, and other villages are not covered, however rural communities like as Mushin, Oke ira nla, Magboro, and Ajao Estate have 5G service.

The source claimed that MTN’s plans to cover the six geopolitical zones of the country on 5G have the speed of light, indicating that those communities not now covered would be covered in the shortest amount of time. MTN did not provide an explanation for the coverage methodology that omitted these locations, but they did not provide the coverage methodology that excluded these areas either.

MTN Nigeria began its commercial 5G debut in Lagos on Sunday, with a pledge to begin the national launch in Abuja as soon as possible.

MTN’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, made the pledge after demonstrating network capabilities to the public in Lagos on Tuesday. He claimed his business has turned on the network in six geopolitical zones with roughly 223 sites that are being expedited very quickly.

MTN’s initial focus will be on seven Nigerian cities: Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja, Maiduguri, Kano, and Owerri.

He assured that the same zeal with which MTN launched services in second, third, and fourth generation networks will be used for 5G technology in the next weeks and months to make it widely accessible to the majority of consumers, particularly in large urban centers.

Despite making significant investments in Nigeria’s 5G rollout, according to Toriola, the company’s primary revenue source is still 4G, and both networks will be deployed at the same time.

Recall that MTN and another telecom, MAFAB communications, were awarded the license to implement 5G in Nigeria in December 2021, with a deadline of August 24th to do so. MTN activated test services on the deadline and began commercial services in Lagos earlier.

According to a 2020 GSMA Intelligence study titled “The Mobile Economy,” the 5G spectrum promises a promising future for technology in Nigeria and is expected to contribute $2.2 trillion to the global economy by 2034.

It is the fifth generation of cellular network technology, aimed to provide higher speeds per user while supporting more connections.
