Airtel Nigeria has just launched a new technology, VoLTE, that promises to revolutionize call experiences on the 4G network. The announcement was made during a brief launch event held at the company’s headquarters in Lagos.
With VoLTE, Airtel customers can now make clearer and crisper calls on the 4G network and the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Additionally, HD voice is available on both Android and iOS devices, providing users with an even more immersive calling experience.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reports that Airtel currently has 60.3 million customers, with a 26.6% market penetration rate. Speaking during the launch, the Director of Marketing for Airtel Nigeria, Ismail Adeshina, emphasized that the company is committed to delivering value to customers by leveraging innovative technology.

“We are glad to be launching Airtel VoLTE in line with the provision of a 4G network for all, which means a whole new level of experience added to the 4G experience for all. VoLTE automatically enables High Dimension Voice for a clearer and crisper voice call experience, and the call rate remains the same despite the amazing quality of experience,” he said.
Airtel VoLTE is now available nationwide, and users can enable the technology on their iOS and Android devices by selecting voice and data options on their mobile phone settings.
In 2022, Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo announced that the Buhari administration had improved 4G coverage in Nigeria from 23% to 77.52%. He also stated that the rapid expansion of broadband access had been a game changer for the digital economy, with 13 million new broadband users added since August 2019.
