Apple Releases iOS and iPadOS 13.6.1, Fixes Storage Bug and Green Tint

Apple has just released iOS and iPadOS 13.6.1 to all supported devices. It is an unexpected update for the iPhone and the iPad, with some minor bug fixes.

The last version of iOS 13.6 is dated July 15th. Then we thought it would be the last update to iOS 13. Well, we were wrong! iOS 13.6.1 fixes a small number of bugs. The update is timely, as a bug that caused the screen of some iPhone models to distort at high temperatures has been fixed.

Sometimes it’s worth waiting a few days with a new iOS release, to make sure the new features don’t cause significant new problems. This is not one of those releases.

With iOS 13.6.1 (and iPadOS 13.6.1), Apple is just cleaning up the iOS 13.6 releases, fixing a couple of the bugs introduced with it. The full release notes are as follows:

iOS 13.6.1 includes bug fixes for your ‌iPhone‌.

– Addresses an issue where unneeded system data files might not be automatically deleted when available storage is low
– Fixes a thermal management issue that caused some displays to exhibit a green tint
– Fixes an issue where Exposure Notifications could be disabled for some users

Some features may not be available for all regions or on all Apple devices. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit this website: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201222

This iOS 13.6.1 may be the last update to the iOS 13 operating system as Apple has transitioned to working on iOS 14, an update that is set to be released this fall.

The iOS and ‌‌iPadOS‌‌ 13.6.1 updates are available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To download the updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
